Dunk it in a tub of light oil / gear oil overnight. Drip dry overnight. Back onto bike with a wipe with a rag to remove any remaining surplus. fitz_the_viking Posted January 23, 2015 Report Share Posted January 23, 2015 I have used silkolene tit chain lube, thats like the waxy stuff you get on brand new chains. I like whites dry chain lube but for a trials bike may be a little ott and expensive. chainsaw oil sounds like a good way to go. I thought wd40 was a seal eater? cbf1000 Posted May 7, 2015 Report Share Posted May 7, 2015 (25) Years ago on a Suzuki LT250R I used an 'of the day' chain wax - dirt stuck to it and formed a grinding paste! I think all chain lubes are a compromise between lubrication and dirt retention. There's not many people who disagree that a Scottoiler is good on road bikes; for me it is it a 'no-brainer' fitment. So, when I bought a trials bike and thought about chain lube I went straight for the blue scottoil oil. But as the typical trials bike usage is only a few miles (OK not SSDT) at very low speed, I might give a dry lube a try - just as long as water doesn't wash it off.
