ian640
Hi, I fitted a new Regina chain, 100 links long, to my 2014 4RT two or three trials ago. It has 9/41 gearing. The problem is the chain now appears to be too long. I realise new chains often stretch at first but it's only done a few trials so I wouldn't expect it to be worn out yet. Anyone know if it's possible to go to 98 links or would this be too short? Thank you. Ian.
mags
Is the allen head fastener that sits against the adjuster clam in the rearward hole? If not you can gain some adjustment there. You can test the 98 link by moving rear wheel fully forward in the adjustment slot and try the 98 links half way up the rear sprocket. Just fold two rollers out of the way to try 98. When testing keep an eye where the tensioner is positioned. That is... the 98 may work but wheel fully forward the tensioner may be too hard against chain and you can't go looser because wheel is fully forward? Chains can be a bugger when changing sprockets because sometimes you need an odd chain length... a 101 or 99!!! You could use a half link maybe? "What Mags said" Adjuster is ahead of the snail cam in the pic above and is screwed into the hole furtherest back along the swim arm; thereby taking up the slack in a 'long' chain. ian640
Thank you both (I'll collect the prize for missing the obvious ). I moved the fastener to the rearmost of the three holes - chain still in one piece, properly adjusted and loads of adjustment left. Relief not to have to bother with half links.
