stpauls
Hello all The kickstart retaining bolt on my Evo 250 keeps vibrating loose. The kickstart actually fell off at one trial, but luckily someone found it for me. This is the retaining bolt that screws into the end of the kickstart shaft. I have tried Blue Locktite and also a star washer. Any ideas? Thanks Edited October 4, 2014 by stpauls
zerorev3rev4
maybe drill through head and use grip securing wire to tie it somewhere
gwl3
Definately drill ( dia 2mm ) the bolt and use lockwire . I use Goodridge stainless lockwire ( 0.62mm) . I do this on a few of the 'important' bolts on my sons Evo 80 / my 290 , including the kickstart and caliper bolts , rear brake lever clevis pin , brake pad bolts etc . Loctite 243 elsewhere on other bolts . Hope this helps . Edited October 4, 2014 by gwl3
dadof2
I have come across this problem on Betas before and it has usually been caused by build up of old loctite and oil on the threads and bunging up the hole. The hole in the shaft needs cleaning out with a bottoming (3rd cut tap) and rinsing out with brake or contact cleaner the blowing out with compressed air. Clean the threads on the bolt with brake cleaner and a wire brush. Refit bolt with new loctite and you should have no more problems. Loctite 271 or Tru loc 360 may be better than 240. I use Truloc 360.
