barfy
I did my first Scott yesterday. I was most disappointed that I ran out of fuel before the first fuel stop. Is it normal for the 4RT to be thirsty? I have a S3 280 kit and programmable throttle body with the laia Sanz 280cc map. Want to go back next year to prove to myself that I can get much further, but want to understand why I might have run out of fuel first and this is the only thought I have at the moment. guys
The new fuel tank only holds 1,9 liters, not much to get around. And a 280 kit won't make it more economical I'm afraid. I might get me the DDM "large" fuel tank kit from H&D Racing for my 2015. Edited October 19, 2014 by guys
jrsunt
I've been very close to running out before and thats a 250 with the standard map. How close were you to petrol 1? There is a lot of fast flat out going on that stint, so it goes through some juice. Also simon wearmouth on a new 260 repsol ran out in the last fields and pushed it to the finish! barfy
I don't know, but one of the back markers came back with my petrol can from the fuel dump and said that it was just over a mile. Felt like I'd pushed it three miles by then though (well a couple of hundred yards anyway). Next year a H&D tank sounds like a good answer, one of those plastic number plate tanks or a 1 litre Sig bottle from Millets.
jrsunt
Were you down in the stream bottom or did you make it out? Its horrible to push, you get nowhere. Just wondering what gearing are you running?
gooseneck
Been caught out there myself. Always make sure it's brim full before you get on that start ramp. Every last drop counts.
betabonkers
I was on a standard 2014 260 and made it all the way without running out.
barfy
I was running 10 / 43 gearing, normally I'd run 9 / 43. And yes I was in the stream bottom. When it stopped I changed the plug because I didn't think I'd run out that soon. Bl##dy pleased when someone came back with fuel and it started. I was wondering how I'd get it out!! guys
I saw this film on the Honda Spain website, where at 2:25 Amós Bilbao criticizes the fuel capacity for trials over a greater distance. And that's why I was searching for a handy solution to that problem and stumbled op on the H&D kit. Maybe that's why Montesa delivers the seat, with storage room for extra fuel, for free with the standard 4RT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeKo7GcRP10
guys
I've put the DDM "large" fuel tank from H&D Racing on my new 4RT and the first test was very good, still starts first kick. I did remove the bank angle sensor and replaced the large capacitor with a small one from Mitani, to create some space for the fuel pump. I saved about 660 grams weight, but I only gained about 0,3 to 0,4 liters of fuel capacity as opposed to the claimed 0,5 litre, but every bit helps i suppose. the addict
I've been very surprised at how much fuel my 2014 is getting through compared to my 07? I recently ran out three times at a road trial, the first time before I'd got to section 15 after filling it to the brim.
