shedracer
I'm currently cleaning and servicing the Keihin carb on my 1988 Honda RTL 250S. I'm going to use an Ultrasonic cleaner, so I'm stripping the carb down, removing the jets etc. I want to remove the float, as I believe these can be damaged by the ultrasonic, making them leak. However I am stumped on how to get the retaining pin out. I've tried but can't budge it and don't want to damage the float or anything else trying. Does anybody have any experience of removing the pin, on a Keihin PW 24. Cheers
andywalker
Hi Shedracer, My 1987 RTL had PW22 fitted, the internals are pretty much the same, i tapped the pin out on mine using a small punch but going very carefully at it, however in the end i replaced my carb as the body was badly worn resulting in the bike running rich all the time. barfy
Opposite of being helpful, but when I take my carb apart the pin just slips out. When putting it back together if I tip the carb on the side it falls out. Sounds like my pin might be warn!!
shedracer
Thanks for your replays guys. Friend offered advice to dip the part in hot water, let it warm up, then gently tap it out with a small punch, worked a treat. Barfy, maybe you could use a very small amount of loctite, to secure the pin.
craig10
The pin is normally limited in it's side travel once the float chamber is fitted, that way it can't come out
