rosey
Back in the 80's most people put a smaller gearbox sprocket on. 13t is original, many went to 12t (as I did on the 300 Fantic I had in 1984) I seem to recall 11t being used too. I still have the standard gearing on the 300 Fantic that I now own, but I use the clutch a lot !! Edited November 26, 2014 by rosey

htrdoug
It's important to match your gearing to the sections you are riding in,When I set my gearing to ride the sections designed by the TY175 Yamaha guys first gear runs out so short it's only good for flat, tight sections, and second is still to high/fast,If I gear it a bit taller it first gear becomes much more usable,My clutch is a match for modern bikes so it can be used to negotiate the tighter sections and still have a longer pulling range for uphill runs.Running 11-44(I can't recall for sure the rear sprocket but that sounds right) I may swap on my SWM rear wheel and give even taller gearing a try,It's got a 39 tooth sprocket I think. Sorry, don't know the gearing on a 300 but the point is experiment until you find what works for you.
