deanogasgas
Hi all, Just spotted some fuel on my sumpguard, cleaned it off and took the bike out. Came back after about five minns and let the bike tick over, turned it off and a small damp patch again... while taking the carb off I spotted the jubille clip, the one on the reed side was loose, After renewing it and putting it back together and also checking the rest of the carb. fired the bike up, spot on and give it a test ride, still have a small damp fuel patch. Could this just be the overflow or is this a commen problem whith the keilin carb . Thanks Deano.
maxbikes
this will be float valve sticking,or has bit of muck stopping it closing.if any one says adjust float DONT,this just masks the problem.
deanogasgas
Is this a complete carb strip down ?
lineaway
A small damp spot is not much concern. Ask anybody that rode Betas for years. And yes checking the float valve at some point is good. Also checking proper float adjustment is just good wrenching.
copemech
The Kiehin carb has an overflow tube that extends up into the fuel bowl which connects to the outlet at the left front bottom of the bowl. Josstling of fuel in the bowl may lead to a minor splash out the tube when riding. If floats or valve were stuck or leaking, you would get a steady stream so possibly just normal. If it runs fine other than an occasional spatter, I would not be concerned, however a good clean is always a good thing, if you do not screw it up in the process. They can be finiky! deanogasgas
Hi, just had alook at the carb, Thanks copemech...just found where the fuel is coming from . The left front bottom of the bowl, should there be a pipe on this to return it into the carb or should it be left open ?
jfc
No it should be open by design, but we have blocked ours internally and removed the tube that extends up into the carb. This has two advantages, no more fuel loss when fuel is sloshed around in the carb and also cleaning the carb becomes very easy as the bowl removal and replacement is straight forward and you don't need to learn the knack as until learnt it can be very frustrating. It should have a vent pipe on it but not returning to the carb. Edited December 3, 2014 by jfc
deanogasgas
Thank you jfc... Should the vent pipe be pointing up or down or does this not matter. I noticed on the right side of the carb (while sitting on the bike) There is a breather / vent pipe to the right of the carb facing down ?? cabby
Unless I've missed it, you failed to say what size of bike it is, as they came with two different type of carbs.
jfc
From memory it should be pointing down. But as stated above it is only a slosh / overflow. You could take the hose up and form a loop above the height of the carb bowl and back down this would reduce the amount of slosh that would spill out.
