cub200 Posted January 4, 2015 Report Share Posted January 4, 2015 Hi All I'm looking for some help with a 350 BB32 rigid Goldie that was built in the UK in the 70's by my brother Mike Galpin. After he died in 88 I imported the bike to Australia and after it changed hands a couple of times I finally have it back and intend to restore it to its original build condition with a BB32GS motor. I need to talk to someone with a similar bike and I have been advised by JonV8 that either or both of Chris Hurworth or Graham Howes might be able to help me and I am hoping they will see this post and contact me on my email, twinshock2@gmail.com Alternatively it would be great to talk to anyone who has experience with building a 350cc Goldie trials. I have the bike as a rolling chassis at the moment with the engine ready to drop in, I need advice on gears, electrics and footrest positioning. Look forward to hearing from someone who could help. The pic of the bike against the wall helps because I can work out a possible footrest position, mudguard brackets and exhaust layout. JonV8, I cannot reply through the TC system for the same reason as above. I need sprocket teeth details, ie. rear, gearbox and engine along with best mag to use and a few gearbox details although the gearbox is stamped TRI on the top so I am presuming its a trials ratio box. The pics and responses have motivated me to get on with the job and the motor is now in the frame which will allow me to fit the clutch etc etc and get some oil lines fitted, plus a few other jobs. Hi Roger, I am glad the fellow's are looking after you, from over here, but forgetting this is where you grew up, and visit quite a lot. I am glad you are building the family bike back up too. You know when things come together, without thinking ? a bit magical at times. Well after a long deliberation I have now done a page on our late friend Chris Leighfield, and the Three Vibsa Bikes he built at the end of his life. And knowing that you bought Vibsa Number One, the bike that Chris built to back up the Cub, but was unable to ride it because of his illness getting worse. It is just poignant that I should now do the page just when you have posts on TC. Anyway I will be building on the page for a while, but you know how many tasks Chris set himself at the twilight of his life. May need your help Roger. Regards Charlie. Chris and I got to know each other when we were both introduced to the sport of trials riding by our parents and by joining the Castle Bromwich Motor Club, we were both 15.I don't want to spoil your story on Chris so I will skip the bits in between and say that we both ended up in Australia, Chris in 1972 and me in 1980, Chris lived in Melbourne and I live in Brisbane. We remained close friends over the years but only met in competition at the Australian championships and him beating me every time, although I did get within 8 marks of him one year. He gave me a modification to the clutch on my Cub which made it the lightest clutch on any Cub I have ever come across, including the Armac option, and swore me to secrecy :-) I bought Vibsa 1 from him, I have photo's if you need them, he built 3 altogether, we emailed two or three times a week and I spoke to him by phone on a regular basis also, he was a great guy.
