richfr
Hi I am new to trials and live in France and would appreciate any feedback on this bike. http://www.leboncoin.fr/motos/752291998.htm?ca=6_s Its a 2002 250TXT Pro (that's what the ad says) he said gearbox oil done 5hrs ago and has new fork seals. Rear sprocket is slightly worn and the exhaust has a patch on it from contact with the rear tyre. Is that common? Couple of extra pics here http://s24.photobucket.com/user/rbaz/library/TXT250 I know to check the gearbox 3-4th when I try it and I will need to service it but anything else you can spot from the pics or I should look at? Many thanks Rich
huski
They weren't that reliable that year, the gearboxes were weak and the build quality wasn't the best .They were ok by 2004 so it didn't take long to improve them .It may have later bits fitted by now and be ok.It looks clean enough check the rear linkage bearings for play the clutch will rattle in neutral but go quiet when pulled in .Ask what the owner what maintenance he does on it you want to hear about frequent gear oil changes and air filter cleaning Are the fasteners on it good or chewed up old bikes are a minefield you can be lucky but don't expect too much at that age and price I don't know what the 2nd hand market is like in France but in UK it would be more like £900/1000
the addict
I think that's the model I had from new, kept it nearly three weeks.
richfr
Not the best year then. They are a little more expensive here and generally not as we'll looked after. I have seen a couple of 04-05 Beta rev3 for not much more money but think they have sold. Maybe worth waiting for a newer bike. Thanks for the help. steve_earle
My favorite bike to ride is the Gas Gas, But If I was looking in that age and price range I would have a Rev 3 hands down.
ripgroove
Agreed, older GasGas's were not the best, older Beta's on the other hand were pretty good (apart from the stators going!) That said though a well maintained bike of any make "can" be reliable. Edited January 17, 2015 by ripgroove
