gasgas249uk
A while ago i interviewed 3 x World Champion Thierry Michaud about his Trials career for my hobby website. He had a long career , so its a long interview . I managed to track down the owners of some of this Fantic factory bikes for photos . This photo of Thierry was taken by my friend Richard Baker at 1988 Uk World trial at Butser Limeworks near Petersfield. Even today , this root covered steep section is absolutely untouchable for most riders. The interview is here http://www.retrotrials.com/exclusive-thierry-michaud-interview.html Edited January 9, 2015 by gasgas249uk
breagh
Mmmn,he admits he's no interest in things past or riding today's trials. Seems strange considering his position. .
axulsuv
Thanks ... my dinner is cold again ... But that definitely sounded like the gentleman that along with Bernie signed my Fantic last year in Tennessee . Now I have to read the directors interview . Thanks again for your time and serious effort . A interview with a man who competed when trials changed forever ... I'm old school too ! steve fracy
Thanks James for this interview. Its one of the ones I have been looking forward to! Thierry was always one of my hero's and I personally never saw anyone as good as him using the clutch! Loved his style. It was even cooler seeing some of the old pics and recognizing places and sections where I rode the same event. I have a great picture that a photographer took of me on the same waterfall in Watkins Glen NY that you show Thierry. Great stuff thanks again! neils on wheels
Thanks for sharing this, another interesting interview. I remember that Butser world round, including having my Mom's Austin Metro towed out the field. That took a bit of explaining! I and others have posted about a desire for greater variety of seasons, conditions & sections in WTC events. This is the sort of thing that Butser offered. I plan to go down to the BTC there in March, I figure it may offer something a bit different.

craig10
I was manning the time control at the SSDT Corran ferry a number of years back when I got chatting to a French spectator who was telling me how much he loved Scotland and coming over for the event. After a bit I said to him 'so you've been over here before then?', to which he replied 'yes, I won it 3 times'. It was only then I looked at him properly that I realised it was Thierry Michaud - cue red face....
