tonyp
Hi, I have a Bantam with Wico-Pacy-55 generator and ignition. All coils on the stator have been removed except the Ignition Coil at the top (with HT lead connected). My question is around where the (low-tension) current is generated.... - is it generated in the missing coils, that would presumably also have powered the lights - or is it generated in the Ignition Coil itself (i.e. does this coil generate the current, as well as creating a HT feed when the points open/close). The reason for asking is to understand whether I can forget the missing (lighting) coils, and just run with the Ignition Coil. Yes, I might go down the electronic ignition route at some stage, but just need to get it running initially. Cheers TonyP
no balance
Hi Tony, Simple answer is yes you can run with the other coils removed. The timing is 1.5mm btdc (best done with the head removed) or 2.5mm btdc if using a Todd high comp head etc. You could also look at fitting a Rooster Booster Junior type module, so you can do away with the condenser. I have one fitted on my bike and it works very well. These modules can be found cheeper at places like Garden Machinery Repair places or Ebay, I have seen them as cheep as £12.50. Cheers, No balance. no balance
It depends on how much money you want to throw at it, personaly I wouldn't spend out for full electronic on a three speed engine, as we all know the most competative Bantams have four speed boxes with second and third gear swopped around, so yes would have to agree that a Electrex World full electronic ignition would be the way to go on a four speeder. Cheers Nb.
tonyp
Thanks. Plan A is..... - get a coil and aim to then finish off 'version 1.0' of the bike - give it a run out a couple of times, and see what it's like - then make the necessary changes, and launch Version 2.0 I'll add electronic ignition if/when needed. Plan B is.... - do lots of work on the bike - avoid spending too much because........ - I usually hit snags and lose momentum - then it will be hidden away with my other unfinished projects. Incidentally it is a bit of a Mixture... - 4 speed D13 - but wico-pacy ignition It was like that when I got it TonyP
