crowsfeet
Hi all. Can anyone shed any light on this I've just bought. I've never had, nor do I know anything about trials bikes. I do have an enduro bike and have always fancied a go on a trials bike. So, when I was offered this bike needing a bit of TLC, from a young lady who's father had passed away, I thought, why not. I think it's a Montesa 311? but can't really find much info about it on the internet just a few pics. However, I believe the 311 is a 258cc and this has 300 stamped on it. Both on the R/H side near to the carb/cylinder and on top of the head??? Any info or suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance. Geoff. dan williams
'92-'93 Montesa 311 I think but I'm no Montesa expert.
dadof2
Generally agree with Dan but I think it may be a shade earlier. Try looking up some old pictures of Rob Crawford from early 90s remember looking at his bike and thinking the barrel was a funny shape and that the fork sliders were likely to get scratched. tlrmark
Dan is right 311 cota. They were only made in 92-93. Also known as the last of the real montesas, called that because were the last Montesa with a Spanish designed and built engine. The 314 cota had a Japanese Honda engine 1994-1996. A friend local to me has a 311 gets used weekly, good solid reliable bike. No problem getting parts.
craig10
I was loaned one of these for a 3 day event, really soft and grippy off the bottom but with an enduro-style power band, great fun on the trail.
crowsfeet
Thanks Gents. Are they any good?. Would you say it's worth spending money on and keeping, or just get it to a usable state as cheap as possible.
lineaway
The 311 was the first water cooled Montesa and the 314 was the first Honda powered Montesa. Both very large bikes for the era. We had about 4-5 of the 311`s in our club. Very soft on the bottom, which with the stop and launch riding at the time was not good. People that owned them did like`em. Have fun.
