1973tr6 Posted January 26, 2015 Report Share Posted January 26, 2015 OK, I an not very smart as I managed to install the ignition rotor with the spring washer inside, yes inside it. I couldn't find the one I took off anywhere so I put on a spare. I thought I checked the inside of the rotor, obviously not well enough..... to cut a long story short, the bike ran well for a while and then guess the washer moved and bang....... no more go ! It looks like the low tension coil is done for as the insulation on the end was broken off. I am puzzled by the wiring, it look like one of the black wires from the points goes to the lighting coil ? is this correct? I am going to remove the lighting coil so can someone help with the correct wiring. The In Motion coils have a black from the LT coil to the points and then a black which I presume goes to the connector under the tank and then to the HT coil, the green is ground to the connector under the tank and the red is what ? 1973tr6 Posted January 26, 2015 Author Report Share Posted January 26, 2015 I have a spark again, traced the wires and there were cracks in the insulation in a number of places so something was grounding out. I have taken out the lighting coil but will still get a new ignition one if only to eliminate the electrical tape that is now covering all the wire! Whilst the Bultaco points set up is excellent and not too difficult to set up properly if you need to replace or have the coils rewound I would seriously consider the electronic option from Bultaco UK they are very good and easy to fit. Order a new one from them and send them your old one, check their site for cost but iirc it wasn't too bad, nor was the cost of a new loom. bultacosd Posted February 19, 2015 Report Share Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) Hi, Your points should have 3 wires connected to them. The LT coil, the condenser and the wire that connects the points to the HT coil. However, it's a good idea to remove the condenser from the ignition plate. (There are only 2 wires connected to the points now, LT coil and wire that goes up to the HT coil) Drill a hole near the edge of the frame web next to the HT and fix your condenser here with a small M4 set screw and nyloc nut. Join the wire from the points, condenser, HT and cut out button wire together and voila. The condenser will enjoy the relative coolness under the tank and you will enjoy the relative ease of changing it if necessary. P.S. if you have an old condenser, cut the wire off the end and fit it in the original position. This will help maintain the cam lubricator (felt support) in the correct position. Sorry, I forgot to mention. If you decide to mount the condenser under the tank, make sure you scrape away the paint on the frame where the condenser will be mounted so that you have a good earth. The black wire from the ignition goes up to the black box and also goes to the kill switch. You have to earth both the black box(I think) and the coil. All the colours match up.
