motosolex
I just finished the gear shifter mod which I purchased from TYtrials: http://www.tytrials.co.uk/trailandtrialsuk/prod_215437-1617-19-Shifter-Repair-Kit-TY125-TY175.html But now it is very stiff and difficult to shift and more worrisome is that it will not shift up past first gear. I can select neutral and first only. I followed kit's instructions and changed nothing else relating to this. Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks
lineaway
I would be concerned on the shift shaft being bent. Did it all go together easily?
motosolex
Thanks, It all fit fine. Strange that the old sloppy gear shifter parts masked this issue.
ourian
Any chance either 1) the shifter lever (one with slot in) is a tooth out on the spline or in back to front. 2) it was already in a gear when you fitted assembly. motosolex
Ourian, interesting. Can you please explain more what you meant regarding Shift 4 Lever? That was an issue for me during assembly. I was not 100% sure about its orientation upon assymbly as it has a larger flange/lip opening on one side than the other. Plus I thought the circlip wasn't really fitting snugly into a slot. Also, when I accomplished the replacement, I can't recall if I was in neutral or in gear. The instructions never specified and I never though differently. Is that an issue that could be jamming things up near the shift lever area? Thanks. copemech
If it did shift up before your work, I would think you probly do not have the short lever in the kit properly engaged on the opposing part.

As it happens I've just stripped one apart, I noted that the larger side of the flange is outermost and the shift lever should point at the gear lever shaft with more or less an equal space either side of the shift lever. Apologies for all the crud but it's a photo I took whilst stripping it apart. I'd make sure it is in neutral when assembling as this will keep everything centralised. motosolex
Ourian, Thanks for that picture. I am soon to redo the fitting. But please note on the instructions provided in the "fitting instructions" item no. 12, it says "fat lip inwards" not too sure what fat lip means in this case as they are about the same thickness. Can you take a picture and post it with the side of the lever that faces inward? http://www.tytrials.co.uk/trailandtrialsuk/prod_215437-1617-19-Shifter-Repair-Kit-TY125-TY175.html Thanks,
ourian
Ok so I've stripped my best bike apart, look no crud. Here's detailed photo of how it all goes together, the larger side of the flange on the shift lever is definitely outermost.
motosolex
Ach-soo Ourian. Thanks so much. I will assymbly it as you. Interesting that up the instructions posted by hyperlink above say contrary. How did you add the writing onto you picture? Are you going with theTrailTrials shifter Kit as well? Thanks
ourian
No worries Motosolex, added writing by opening photo with microsoft paint and adding text box. There's no need to upgrade the shifter on my best bike, it's like new, but on the renovation project the one with the crud, I'm going to look at making the modification myself as have access to a lathe. motosolex
Thanks for the word processing note! Well, I took the shifter apart and I had put it together exactly as you posted. But, it still only shifts into first and up into neutral. . I will take the clutch cover off and see what is going on there. It puzzles me that besides the shifer kit, nothing was changed and now the bike will not shift. Any ideas fellows? Any U-Tube resources I may have missed? Adjusters? motosolex
Possible same issue, but no posted remedy. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RtWwZx2HJKY Any ideas?
lineaway
You will have to break down and do the adjustment on the other shifter on the clutch side. You have actually tried riding it? Not just sitting on the workbench? Edited February 3, 2015 by lineaway
motosolex
I did try to ride her after I had done the assymbly. She'd only go into first and neutral. She's back on the bench, shifter lever appears normal and nothing hinders as in the Ourian's pictures. Today I will drain oil, and remove right side cover to see. Will I need to romove the clutch to adjust things? My Haynes book isn't to helpful on this issue.
