trysometrials
Hello all, first post here. I just picked up a 2005 txt300 pro and am going through it to find the bugs. Biggest thing I've found is cracked lower engine mounts. Like http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/39855-2008-txt280-cracked-lower-engine-mount/?fromsearch=1So I am going to get it welded up. My question is with bashplate off and swingarm on can I take out the bolt going through the mount and case to get some good welds. Or is taking that bolt out going to be to much stress somewhere? Any pictures of repaired mounts? Tips? Also I have been searching and determined that it was a flatened bashplate/loose swingarm axle that caused it. It is about 15mm to long now after removal. Any tips on re bending bashplate? Or replacement? I am in the states. Thank you for your time.
copemech
remove swingarm and motor, take to a good tig welder. Tell him it is 4130 material. Not special in that sense.
sectionone
Here is what I did, I don't recommend it but it worked for me. I had a small lower mount crack, about a mm. I took the skid plate off, left everything else in place and welded the crack with my $99 Harbor Freight welder using a scrap piece of metal to reinforce it. It is one ugly looking weld job but it has been holding up for over a month and it cost me nothing and was a quick fix. I rebend the skid plate by bashing it with a 16lb sledgehammer. Once you start bending it back in shape, it becomes weaker and you have to bash it back into shape more regularly, like at every oil change. I'm thinking of welding some reinforcement aluminum to it and even a second layer but using a pro welder not my Harbor Freight. I remember some riders over 20 years ago who would have a second layer welded on instead of getting a new skidplate.
trysometrials
Is there a specific method to removing the motor? Order of bolt removal? I know I can leave the water pump together and just remove it. Any suprises I should be aware of? If when welded up and things dont align is there method of compressing the frame? I dont think that will be a problem with skidplate removed though. Thanks again.
sectionone
Removing the engine is straightforward but a hassle which is the reason I left it in and also because I'm lazy. The new models have beefier braces so I made mine stronger.
