I wouldn't have thought that the 200 would be too underpowered for you as such, you will just have to rev it more. The smaller engine will definately mean less dabs when you get tired though if you can get used to it.

I'm 16st (ish) and had a Beta 200 for a while which had no problem pulling me around typical clubman-type sections. If you're used to bigger bikes you'll find that the 200 really improves your technique - the relative lack of power means that appropriate rider input is very important since you can't just rely on sheer grunt to get you out of trouble - you actually have to ride it! And the 200cc Beta engine is soooo smoooooooooth...

The only reason I got rid of mine was I spend more than half of my time riding socially and to be honest, the 200 just wasn't fun for me in that context. If I could afford it, I'd have a 200 for competition and "serious" practice and a 250 for messing around on. As it is I compromised with a 250 (my old 270 had the opposite problem - too fierce and brutal) and I'm pretty happy bobbing around the midfield clubman B results and deluding myself that I'm anything other than inept while bouncing off daft big steps with my mates on a Saturday afternoon.

Kickstart broke on our 200 but the importers changed it free of charge as it was less than 6 months old.

As for the power, unless you ride large rock steps or massive hills, you will never be short of power on a 200. I tried a 125 and even that's got more than enough power for the type of trials I ride.

If you still need convincing, take a look at the 125 class of the Youth A national championship, see what those lads ride! And a good many of them weigh 10stone plus too.

Hope this helps.

When ever the 200 has been tested in T&MX they ahve note that even experienced expert riders can get better results on the 200 on certain types of sections. I remember Birkett suggesting that it was the perfect bike for the SSDT. I've never noticed anyone using one in the six days and have always wondered if it would be up to the job.
