robbiesty175
If there is an afterlife, I want to come back as an old, beaten Bultaco Sherpa and end up in Larry's shop!
trailie
Well I finished fabricating the chainguard with a nice dimple and bracket, but I've also took the plunge and cut open my tank. Anyone made similar repairs? http://ralphsbultaco.blogspot.co.uk
lbhbul
It is quite an adventure to open a tank , and it also takes a certain amount of nerve, also kind of scary. I have done so on more occasions than I wanted to, but such is life with old machinery. By the way the chain guard looks really good, I have always wimped out & paid for the SM, good work. Mod 49 tank putting back can be a bother!! Naturally this was a painted tank that I messed up the first go around All good now Hope this helps Larry Edited December 26, 2015 by lbhbul
trailie
I had thought of cutting the two big slots like you did but the boat repair man reckoned it wouldn't make any difference just cutting the thing in two bits. Yours turned out looking really good Larry. Did you use anything inside it again afterwards. Brian was telling me he has a resin that he uses in chemical tanks that's resistant to acids, but ethanol's not really an acid, so I might go with whatever is currently the best - caswell maybe
lbhbul
Yes I did use a product that is available here but maybe not where you are, I have a friend who uses Caswell, to good end. The whole thing depends on how clean you get the tank prior to lining that makes the job good or not. I do not use any Ethanol, however modern fuel, and polyester resin, NOT GOOD!!! But back to my Blue girl--- On the way to turn on the air 9:00 am (east; right in the sun) Little later in cool shop More later as I'm old and slow Larry PS That head steady don't look right??
lbhbul
Well maybe not much going on out there?? Made a little progress since last time, not a whole lot for most, but for me enough sitting on rolling seat to do me, and also stopped to help out a friend and do some machine work yesterday . Add a condenser Up on the lift for a little clutch work Now we can get it to where its easier to work on. Larry
scot taco
Thanks for the comments on the Pursang.I bought it in 1998 for 300.00,went through it and have been racing it ever since as family and work permits. It has been extremely reliable and the handling has saved me more than once! Tailie, you do very nice work- looks good. Larry, glad to see that you have a good project to have a reason to be out in the shop. Not a bad looking bike and I,m sure it will be running like a top when it leaves OK Bultaco. I have off this coming Friday so I,m going to take the Sherpa T out to the nearest riding area, about an hour and fifteen away, and get some practise in. Everyone take care and keep the rubber side down
robbiesty175
Put a set of Betor rear shocks on my sweet Model 92. Feels better, but I still need a new set of tires for things to be perfect. LOVE how easy this starts up and runs. Just toying with the idea of a smaller front or larger rear sprocket to slow it down just a bit. But it sure loves to pull uphill! And once I find a muffler my neighbors will be happy too!

Not much but safety wire clutch and refit case, 300cc Dexron , change tank bolt configuration. stock tank bolt maybe cleaner

smelling123
What did I do to my Bultaco today? I tried very hard to break it at the acquaduct classics trial. Great trial but expert route bit beyond my modest talents - very slippy rocks Bike survived a few falls but puncture 2 sections before the end stopped play...
bullylover
I rode a two day trial in North Queensland over the weekend so today I washed my bike and then cleaned the brakes out and regreased the brake cams in each wheel and rotated the rear tyre to straighten the valve ready for our club day this Sunday. Ready to go again.

bultacorock
I think i have a 199A ! it looks like one. It say 199A on the frame and on the right hand engine case but the gear box drain pug is in the wrong place ! same place as a 199 so it looks like one of the cases is from a 199 ? it has 199 printed on it looks like it was cast into it. Top of barrel also has l ( then a three legged symbol then ) 199-1 im just wondering how much of the engine is 199 and how much is 199A It runs really well other riders tell me so, im just happy it works. I have been trying to load photo but can not get them to up load even tried advanced up loader will have an other go after tee. Thanks for any feed back BR
lbhbul
The main difference between 199, and 199a I believe is , the 199a has 3 main bearings, 199 has 2. The LH case with bottom drain is common to earlier m159 and forward and the problem would only be clearance on the skid plate used on 199a bikes. There would be no mechanical problem encountered with the earlier LH case. Hope this helps Larry
