laird387
The passing of Don Hutchinson two weeks ago at the age of eighty six reduced the legendary Ilkley Motor Club 'Summer Wine' Ilkley Grand Nationalorganising team of the last millennium down to three. Don Hutchinson arrivedon a motorcycle with his late wife to spectate at a New Year Trial at theSun Inn at Norwood and ended up observing for top official Geoff Fletcher. The Hutchinsons got the trials bug there and then. The former Fleet Air ArmPetty Officer and latterly an engineer at Vickers Armament became part andparcel of the Ilkley Grand National and acted as permit seeker and secretaryof the trial for thirty years. Apart from his talents as an organiser Dondistilled firewater of lethal strengths. The writer of this obituary wasofficial back marker for the I.G.N. and after imbibing Don's samples wasknown to overtake competitors at great speed. Indeed one official protestwas received from a competitor. Unfortunately this sad news has surfacedafter the funeral service. R.I.P Don Hutchinson.
