casperboat
Hi. My mate has recently restored a DR400S, he has rebuilt everything and it is pretty much n mint condition. He's offering to sell it to me. I've been trying to judge value, but there don't seem to be any restored ones for sale for me to guide a price. He's not going to make any money for the 300 hours he has worked on it, just wants his costs back so he can buy something else to restore... Any one got some idea of a price guide, I've searched the internet but i've been unable to find anything. Thanks.. Gary
t-shock 250
Have you tried asking on Trail bike mag forum? More chance of a few responses on there.

casperboat
Have you tried asking on Trail bike mag forum? More chance of a few responses on there. Seems a very little used forum though, but i've posted the same question for them to consider..
casperboat
also compare against sp 370/400 There are a couple of those on ebay. An SP400, said to be in good nick for £2595, but that's from a dealer. My mate isn't after anything near that sum. I can't seem to find a comparable bike for sale to compare to, but I guess/hope the bike would be worth more than he's spent on it, as he did all the work himself, except having the new stainless steel exhaust made up, which a specialist did. casperboat
Don't seem to be having much luck with this. Tried several forums and clubs but no one seems to be able to say a range of prices . I'm not keen to buy it without knowing any values. crazybond700
Find some unrestored, add a couple of houndred and you will be there. Restoring ''modern'' stuff does not add a lot of value. (depends a little upon the detail of restoration offcoarse) THey do around 2500 3000 euro's in the Netherlands.
twinshock giles
If it really nice and has been restored to original spec, rather than in green lane trim then maybe £1500, I think the SP's were more desirable so may command slightly higher prices. On the plus side if you keep it nice its not going to loose any value.
casperboat
My mates dithering now, he keeps saying he wants to sell it, but never commits. I think he half wants to keep it, but he's buying 2 other bikes, both of which need restoring, so he needs space, at least his wife says he needs space... If I get near it with a camera i'll post some pictures.
casperboat
Got to view this bike today in the glorious sunshine. It is rather nice, and has been rebuilt. The work left to do would be to respray the mudguards and the battery cover, the owner didn't want to respray these, he's only rebuilt the main body and mechanics of the bike. They look fine at any distance but close up they have some fading and could do with painting to match the rest of the rebuild. We had a right game trying to start it, until he realised he had put the ignition switch into the lights on position, blaming the lights on nicking too much of the power. It started after a while then, though we had probably flooded it by then. It sounds lovely, a big thumper, Now got to decide whether to have it, he says he won't take less than £1500 for it, but he will MOT it as it only has 3 months mot left, but it's only done 8 miles since that! I like it, just wish it was older..
twinshock giles
That looks a nice thing, personally I would say its a very reasonable price, If you get it don't paint the plastics - they'll never be right, you can use various products to improve the look of them. casperboat
Spoke to the chap today and he has agreed to sell it to his brother for £1000 on the understanding that he can buy it back in a year for the same price.. I'll have to keep an eye out for another bike, ideally a 1970's one..
