thesaint
I have a question about the cylinder gaskets for a 1998 Gas Gas TX 320 Contact Looking in the parts manual there are listed 3 gaskets for the cylinder. crazybond700
I think they are in multiple thicknisses to set the squish height.
steve_earle
As Crazy said, They are to adjust the Squish. Do a search and you will find more info on it or just fit the 0.8mm to be safe.
thesaint
Thanks for the help The only thing is that in the parts manual for my bike there are 3 different types of gaskets listed but the store where i buy the parts only have 1 type of the gasket and not all 3 of them The gaskes are shown as part 20-21 and 22 in the picture below Edited September 26, 2020 by thesaint
cbutler
You should only need one, they are three DIFFERENT THICKNESSES.On my 01 TXT280 they are 0.1mm 0.3mm 0.5mm you use the different thicknesses to adjust the squish (about 1.2mm) up or down. Unless you are a VERY good rider you will never know the difference but you could measure it now to find out if you need to go up or down. collyolly
I think another use is to put more than 1 in to lower the compression ratio to soften the motor performance. Maybe not perfect as far as squish is concerned but as stated earlier not many would notice the difference but most would notice the softer performance of a reduction in compression. I had one of the old gasgas 350's, compression was so high it was renowned for breaking kickstarts, I did not give squish a second thought ( did not even know about it ) just got a local engine specialist to take out as much metal from the cylinder head as possible to get the compression down and hey presto a beautiful grunty engine was born. Port timing will also be changed if you mess with the gaskets but you will be doing that anyway if you are playing with the squish.
