Hey all

Please listen to this engine and tell me what you think

Im not going to tell you the details of the engine until after i get a few opinions on it that way it does not change your opinion.

Please only comment if you have or have had a 125. If your ridding a 300 and never even seen a 125 please don't say anything. The 125 always sounds different then a 300 so please don't comment with "well my (300,290,250,200) sounds like this".

Im just trying to get some honest opinions here

If you think it sounds just fine then say that too.

My 07' 125 had a rattle that would drive me crazy, at meetings guys would walk past and comment "sowing machine"?. I googled it and found some 125's are noisy. It did not go away with the clutch pulled in either. New piston etc., new bearings etc. I road it for two years twice a week like that. I thought the noise would go against the bike in a sale, but the bike worked so well the buyer overlooked the rattles.

Cheers Taff

i have owned an 06 125  08 125 and 015 125 shercos and  125s end up rattly after a few years. that noise is pretty normal, not too bad at the moment and wont affect anything, if your really fussy and want the noise gone i would replace the piston and rings along with the small end bearing.  or strip it down and figure which one is worn, it will be one of those. best changing it all while your there. that bikes probably still on its original piston.

this would get rid of the ticking/light top end noise, the slight whiring and rumbling noise is the clutch, also normal.  while your there change the airfilter to so you can keep the new piston etc extra protected.   as for the induction noise twinshock dude, the shercos over those years had airboxes which where 'open' with just the mudguard on top.   also turn your idle down. do this by turning the big screw on the carb anticlockwise. also make it abit richer by giving it 1/4 maybe more out ( pretty sure its out on the dellorto.. someone confirm this?)   hope this helps and you can continue to enjoy the bike. any more questions just ask

Sounds like a run of the mill used 125 to me. Nothing wrong with that, you got what you paid for.

If you want it perfect, then splash out for a re-plate and fresh piston, because in my experience you will not get there otherwise as the tolerances are too tight on these things and a hone job will not do!.

I went through the same on my 250, but it was worse.

My old 125 sounded like yours, but worked fine.
