2002 Beta Rev 3 270 Suspension Question

just getting into the sport, coming from riding enduro for the last 20 yrs.  I bought a 02 270 Rev3 and really don't know much about trials bikes at all.

The forks were leaking and I took them to my normal suspension tuner to get serviced.  The rear shock bolt was so seized in the swing arm I had to bring him the whole swingarm and shock together so he could get the bolt out with the help of a bridgeport.  Now that he has the bolt out and is ready to service the shock he was wondering if I had heard of anyone doing anything special with the valving or is everyone just leaving them stock and changing spring for weight?  I'm about 205lbs, so most likely the spring is too soft for me as well.

thanks for any advice.

The linkless rear shock is un serviceable by most suspension guys. Due to paioli never released the internal seal specs or internal shock info. To my knowledge parts were never made available from aioli. They wanted you to send your dead shock to them and buy a rebuilt at approx 800 dollars from your beta dealer.

If the rear shock is in good shape, it`s plenty good for your weight. The front fork spring could use a new one as the bike only has one up front. If you are actually riding trials soft is better. If you got the owners manual with the bike, go by the factory settings for your lean weight.

I had a blabber go on me on an '07 250.

You'll know when it's gone as it'll "suck and slurp" when bounced.

I rang around but couldn't find anyone that serviced them in the UK, lots of heard they did or try them, but no luck anywhere.

I ended up replacing it with one made by Ollie, once set up correct it worked well.

I have just had mine rebuilt including a new bladder through Andy Metcalfe Motorcycles  01642 475600 even posted it back to me in France.

Unbelievable difference.

What was the rough price for the rebuild, if you don't mind me asking?

I have a 04 rev 3 shock that I'm fitting to a JCM at the moment and it could do with a re fresh.

I think it was around £90 for a rebuild if no other parts needed and it was £181 delivered to France so probably about £165 with the new bladder.

Mine is an 04 the red shock. You could hear the oil moving around when you shake it couldn't hear anything when I got it back.

Give Andy a ring he is a nice guy
