alta
Disregarding an aftermarket frame, what mods have you done to your cub in order to improve competitiveness?
alta
Clearly nobody has done anything to theirs!!! So this is what I've done to mine: Frame geometry is standard. Armac yokes. Armac tank, with fabricated brace under tank. Tank mounted as low as possible. Home made plastic seat with vinyl covering. Armac exhaust system. 35mm forks from an air cooled Beta hidden in Triumph heavyweight sliders. Billet front hub. Subframe loop removed. Subframe narrowed. Footrest to handlebar relationship as 08 Scorpa. Rockshocks. Chaintube. Home made chain tensioner. Alloy rear spindle and snail cams. Home made stainless brake pedal. Alloy swinging arm spindle with silentbloc bushes. Motor is 199cc with R cam. Alloy clutch pressure plate. Longer clutch actuating arm. Low second and high top gears. Primary chain tensioner. Gearbox sprocket access cover. Crankcase modified to prevent mud build up around gearbox sprocket. Electrex electronic ignition. Cheap "Mikuni" carb form Ebay, with foam filter. Home made oil tank with sensible capacity. Wet weight is 87kg. Your comments Gentlemen please!

alta
It's in the Pre 65 forum for two reasons, one is to provoke comment and hopefully gain some hints and tips, two is because it is probably more "pre 65" than most cubs you see! I freely admit that it's a cheat but is mainly ridden against modern bikes on the "B" route. Maybe we need a new category in the Forums called "Britshocks"!. I forgot to say that it also has alloy rims but I have retained the std cub rear hub which hasn't been widened although it does have an alloy brakeplate.
feetupfun
I think you might have got more response initially with a different heading. I read the heading a different way to what you seem to have intended people to read it, and didn't even open the posting until you replied to yourself
alta
Yes, you're probably right! Still nobody letting on as to what they've done to theirs though!
wallo
I took the alternative approach. I bought a Yam twinshock and put an alloy Cub tank on it, a few Triumph stickers and Bob's your uncle. I used some liquid metal to fill in the Yamaha logo on the crank cases, I get a few comments, but that's down to it being a 2-stroke, all I say is it's the 2-stroke cousin of the Cub a bit like the Bantam to the C15 :-) I'll post some pictures soon.
charlie prescott
Hi Guy's Hi Wallo, How is your "Bantam" running?? Has it done any modifications?? alta
Ah well, at least my "mostly cub" is tax and mot exempt!.........
trialsrfun
Riding a bike which you have built and developed yourself is so much more satisfying than just buying one.
wallo
........ and a lot more expensive :-)
bashplate
still waiting patiently for pictures of this marvelous cub!!!!
alta
Have to agree with both trialsrfun and wallo! It's not just about riding the thing. It's the tinkering, developing, wondering what to do next, trying different things that sometimes improve performance and sometimes don't and yes it can be expensive! That's why I try to make as many bits and pieces as I can. As for pictures, I'll take and post some shortly. Incidentally, there is a nearly full page pic of my dad riding it when it still had all the steel bits in a Classic Bike magazine of I think 1982 vintage. I seem to remember the front cover featured John Surtees' Vincent Grey Flash.
