Peak Classic Trials Club held round 8 of their 2015 Championship at Carsons Farm last Sunday 30th August and firstly we would like to thank all the riders and observers who turned out on the Bank Holiday weekend to support the Club.

Carsons Farm is a small compact but popular venue and the Clerk of the Course Paul Beswick had still managed to find a challenging mixture of rocks, tree roots and climbs for the riders to enjoy and test their skills on.

Four laps of 10 sections was the order of the day and the Expert British Bike class was won in fine style by Simon Bown on his newly rebuilt BSA Bantam which he is slowly getting to his liking and his winning score of 18 marks showed how man and machine are getting in harmony. Second place went to Steve Thompson also on a BSA but a thundering 4 stroke made the battle a bit of a David and Goliath act but well ridden both of you.

Expert Twinshock was a closely fought affair between Honda mounted Robert Carson, whose family own the land and so kindly let us use it, and ex works rider Chris Milner on his Bultaco. Only one mark separated them in the end with Robert on 3 and Chris on 4. In third place was another local man Dale Shaw who hasn’t ridden for about a year but the rust soon wore off and he rode to a fine third place losing just 11 marks along the way.

The only rider to go clean on the day was Peter Carson on his rigid Bantam in the Classic Expert British Bike class closely followed by Tim Hartshorne on his Matchless on 2 marks. Another David and Goliath act with the diminutive Bantam coming out on top. In third was another rider on a Bantam getting used to his new ride and that was Gary Shaw who had a good ride to lose only 13 unlucky for some.

A smaller entry than normal in the Classic Expert Twinshock class saw David Pattison supreme on 9 marks ahead of second placed Mick Atmore on 16 and Robert Mycock in third out on his Majesty and still coming to terms with the difference from his usual Bultaco on 41 which looked a lot worse because he missed section 10, a fairly easy section, on all four laps adding an extra 20 to his score.

Intermediate British Bike saw the Bantam of young Harry Lyons triumphant ahead of Martyn Nelson out on his James which he is also coming to terms with instead of his usual Yamaha. Harry taking the win on 32 against Martyns 39.

Intermediate Twinshock saw Gary Martin on his SWM have a brilliant ride to lose just 6 marks and the win ahead of second placed David Cole, Yamaha, on 27 and third placed John Morley on his Honda on 37. Gary obviously found the course on the day to his liking.

Coming all the way from Australia John Barnes was trying out his Tiger Cub in preparation for the upcoming Manx two day and convincingly won the Classic Intermediate class with a loss of 10 marks ahead of second placed Bantam mounted Peter Elvidge on 12 and Linden Thorpe bringing his Cub home in third on 40 marks lost.

A much shorter trip was had by Classic Intermediate Twinshock winner Peter Austin on his Aprilia who lost 19 marks to keep MZ special rider Alan Marin – Andrews in second place on 38 and Magnus Roche, Fantic, in third on 43 marks. This is the first time we have had the pleasure of a home brewed special MZ compete with us and it was a delight to see all the hard work come to fruition.

Arthur Tomkinson put on his usual polished performance to claim victory on his bog standard Greeves Scottish in the British Bike Clubman class with a loss of only 7 marks ahead of Cotton mounted Chris Boyett on 31 and young Alan Critchlow on his James in third on 53 marks.

Clubman Twinshock saw Phil Green bring his Bultaco home in the lead ahead of Simon Currie, Yamaha, and Tony Shaw, Bultaco, in third and their scores were close at the bell being 8, 12 and 14 respectively. Well ridden guys.

Clubman Air Cooled Mono was a two way fight between ex East Midlands Centre Champion Barrie Rodgers and Steven Blower both Yamaha TY riders with Barrie taking the honours on 28 to Stevens 33.

Our next event will be round 9 at Longcliffe Tops on September 27th so see you there.

Another really good Peak Classic trial. This is the third one I've done now and they are really well organised with plenty of scope for different abilities. I'm always really impressed with the sections layout, the friendliness and the amount of work that has obviously been put in. Brilliant, well done Paul.

We've ridden this year as "guests" but my riding buddy and I will be joining your club next year and aiming to do all the trials, I would encourage anyone to make the effort to get to the Peak Classic trials.
