metisse
Could anybody please point me in the right direction regarding the above bike owned from new by my trialing uncle. He is looking to restore the bike to original condition could anybody please recommend a company or individual who is capable of carrying out the work. Would prefer East Anglia or South East. Many thanks
bibbo
I'd love to buy it and restore/ride it myself!!
collyolly
Original condition and ridden will be a clever one to achieve. Unfortunately as has been discussed on this site at great length in the past an original condition 1960's bike would be almost impossible to ride in modern pre 65 trials even ones which are meant to cater for the class ie pre-unit Good luck with the project but take some advice first before you spend your money as you could end up with something that has cost you a fortune and you have nowhere to ride it ! Sorry to be a cynic
collyolly
Sorry, I jumped in with both feet there, I now re-read your post as the original owner wanting to restore the bike, so not necessarily to be ridden. Good luck
dadof2
Following is not answer to original question but I know a few who would advise along same lines. Don't fully restore it, just do enough to make it tidy, prevent further deterioration and make it a good sound runner with as many of the parts as possible still original. jon v8
My suggestion is to talk to Steve Surbey of AMC Classic Spares. Firstly because he is top man in terms of model / technical knowledge, and secondly he will know who is the right person / company to restore the bike for you. Lovely bike - I could look after it for you...
metisse
Thanks I will pass this on to him. Having owned the bike for some 55 years he has quite an attachment to it. I very much doubt it will ever pass the begins cards again, moreover a sunday morning hack. It is a lovely bike and worlds away from a present day pre65 and dare I say it almost unridable in all but the very easy route. How times have changed... Thanks for the replies
