The chain is supposed to be very close to the shock spring. If you move the sprocket teeth towards the centre of the bike, the chain will then be misaligned. Most people space the shock out a little at the bottom mount with a washer to give more chain clearance. The problem comes about because modern shocks have bigger diameter springs than what the bike was designed for

Feetup fun is spot on, most shock springs are too wide for the original Yamaha design. My old rat 250 chain rubs the spring, but I just turn the spring around so it misses. Never caused any problems though.

If you do want to do something different Talon Engineering will make whatever you want within reason, they are really helpful people to deal with and one off sprockets dont cost much more than stock ones from them.

Thats the point though Jon i have an account at Talon they make sprockets for Villiers but they cant sell me one. I can buy sprockets for any other bike from them but Villiers services have stopped them selling them direct even to account holders. Grrr. I used to get them from Simon Bateman but now he's sold up to Villiers services i cant which is a shame as i really liked dealing with Simon who is a top bloke. Thanks for the contact above will give them a try. Sorry for hijacking the thread

Yep, have a word with Paul, he is really helpful,a true enthusiast. We often ride together at Golden Valley trials etc.

The situation with Villiers Services was discussed last weekend at the GV British bike trial, it seems you are not alone in your observations.
