jas
I have misplaced my manual and I am wondering if anyone can give me the proper point gap for a 1974 TY80. Thanks, JAS
lineaway
Depends on your weight. http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/the-compleat-yamaha-ty80-thread.574301/
dadof2
15 to 18 thousandths of an inch or about 0.4mm. I don't think you can move the stator backplate on a TY 80 and therefore the timing (in addition to dwell angle) is fixed by points gap. Smaller gap retards timing, larger gap advances it. If you can find the specified advance / TDC then use a strobe to set this. I think TY 80 should be set between 1.8 and 2.3 BTDC.
