oldgrumps
Looked at sight glass after washing bike and discovered whitish gunk on bottom of sight glass window. I'm assuming this is water? The oil on top looks good. Wouldn't oil float to the top? Old Edited January 11, 2016 by oldgrumps
technowaldo
Your waterpump casing is pourous £85 to replace
2stroke4stroke
This can also happen just due to a build up of condensation. i have experiencec it over the years with no leaky pump casing.
oldgrumps
Sorry don't know why picture is upside down and how to make it smaller
anotherfive
If this is just on sight glass but rest of oil is ok I'd say not to worry. Worst case change your oil and monitor.
steve_earle
Pull off the waterpump casing and check for corrosion if it looks o.k just change the oil and keep an eye on it. Could be a waterpump seal or as others have said just condensation, I get it on mine from time to time and it reminds me to change the oil!! oldgrumps
Just changed the oil. Can't seem to get the white stuff off the sight glass Old
2stroke4stroke
Lean the bike on its side, unscrew the "glass" plug and clean it out with brake cleaner or whatever. There are some ribs in it which prevent use of a cloth or the like.
oldgrumps
So it's screws off? I'll give it a shot on my next oil change. I'm going to make sure there is no problem first. Thanks Old
2stroke4stroke
If you don't clean it now you won't know if the problem continues or not?
jfc
As above lay the bike down and remove the glass and clean. Refit the glass but do not over tighten, the plastic can become brittle, just put a socket on it and tighten it with your hand do not use a ratchet or bar, socket and fingers only!! hp65
What would be the best way to remove the water pump seal? Can It be removed just with the pump cover and impeller off or does the casing need to be pulled off too?
2stroke4stroke
I carefully drilled (so as not to contact the sealed bearing behind) then used self tappers to pull it out if I remember correctly.
lockie28
Seems like a hassle that, your as well taking the casing off and doing the job right. Gives you a good opportunity for a Wee inspection inside there at the same time. It's a hour and a half job max.
