mikedabike
Hi Folks, Can anyone help me out with a small prob, I'm modding a XL185 engine and need to change the main bearings. Looking at the gear for the cam timing I can't remember seeing a key or any other method of re-aligning the gear after its taken off to replace the bearing. Any hints or tips other than remembering where one of the teeth lines up to a characteristic on the crank? Please excuse the vagueness I haven't seen parts recently as they are at work and due to a "five" laying out our last trial the NHS said I couldn't go back there for a while!! Any help here would be great Edited October 13, 2005 by mikedabike
g4321
There isn't a key, the gear is an interference fit on the crankshaft. The centre of any tooth on the sprocket should be aligned with the centre of the generator key-way. Gordon
