Trials Terminology

I am planning entering some trials this year, around west yorkshire with my son aged 12, and am slightly confused by  the different terminology used and also whether a trial is restricted to the hosting club, I am assuming that if it is not stated as being restricted on Trials Central and further a pre entry is not required ( like the SSDT), it is safe to assume we just turn up with our ACU Licence and entry fee and pay on day.

 

In the 80's when I last did a trial, north of the border, I do not recall references to Very easy, easy,  beginners, novice, conducted course, youths, clubman b & clubman A. Whilst I fully appreciate conditions can change on the day making a course easier than or harder than envisaged, what I am looking for is some guidance between the difference in practice between :-

 

Very Easy, Easy, Beginners, Novice, Conducted Course, Youth & Clubman B.

Best thing is to go and watch, between clubs the levels can variate (at least in the netherlands).

 

We have a slightly different class system in the Netherlands I think:

For adults:

A(yellow)

B(red)

C(blue)

D(white)

and the A class, and now somethimes also the C class (most often the biggest) have a Plus (+) variation.

 

For childeren:

A(championclass)

B(juniors)

C(aspirants)

D(pupils)

E(gnome's)

F(open class)

 

But I quess the idea is the same in all countries.

 

Just go and watch, here its quite normal to walk the courses and then subscribe. If its not your intention to become champion straight away it does not matter if you try some classes. Also if conditions are difficult you can try a lower class for example in the beginning. Later you will know what class you (and he) are in and you can try to gain as much point as possible.
