We are going to look at a 96 gas gas 250, Could some of you guys tell me a few things about this bike, espicially is there anything in particular we should look out for on this model? How will i know the year is there a badge on it anywhere that tells you?? And most of all what do you think its worth ?(euro) The guy selling it says its in very good condition... scorpa3 Posted October 21, 2005 Report Share Posted October 21, 2005 Once a trials bike gets to this age, you are buying solely on condition really. A well looked after 96 Gas GAs would be worth more than a beaten up abused 2000 or 2001 model. I had a new 270 one of these, they do have a complicated rear mudguard/seat fitting arangement which was a pig to put back together when they were new, so have a look at this. One of the other points which you should have a good look at is the rear suspension linkage, once this worn out it is very expensive to replace. Lots of bearings and spacers which added together cost a fortune. Check out the overall condition and forget the age. kevin j Posted October 24, 2005 Report Share Posted October 24, 2005 96 had a complicated air box, difficult to service. 97 had a side acess panel for the airbox. Neither by themself are go/no go on the decision, but the 96 was harder to service filter and more chances of damaging the conneciton of box to carb. In either case, sucking dirt can damage the expensice chrome bore. I would make sure the box to joint hasn't been damaged, or taped or sealed up, or any patches indicated someone took less then good care. my son has a 96, I am looking for a 97 asirbox to fit someday if anyone has one.
