papa al
100% newbie, but old. Just bought a old April Climber, site-unseen; had delivered. Bike seems mostly okay, but the rotors are rusty & pitted. The rear brake does not work well at all. The hydraulics & pads are good and seem to be contacting ok. Should I consider getting the rotors turned or is rusty okay, as the seller insists? Thanks.
lineaway
Just clean up the rust, but that caliper sure looks funny upside down!
papa al
Okay. Clean it up on a lathe, sandpaper/ steel wool? Rust is pretty heavy & pits. Maybe papa just worry too much. Up-side-down? You jus' messing' wi' papa, right?
pschrauber
That's an interesting Hybrid? Seems to be a Yamaha and maybe Italian blend haven't seen such a bike before. Some more pics?
john.b
He is not messing Papa! The plastic disc guard and caliper need swapping places. Guard to go on the bottom and the caliper on the top. Having said that I think the plastic guard will be the wrong way round once fitted, just buy a new guard! tshock250
What engine is that??? Did he tell you it had been converted?
lineaway
The Aprilia had the chain on the rh side. Looks like they flipped the tire around and flipped the swingarm upside down.
tshock250
What does it turn like with the forks raked-out like that?
feetupfun
The frame appears to be modified with the front end of a Yamaha trailbike frame. The motor looks like Yamaha single cylinder air cooled off-road bike from the 1970s, I'm thinking early IT175 except for the cylinder head which looks like it is from a Yamaha road bike The front end is from a late 1980s early 1990s trials bike (Aprilia Climber era) The Aprilia swingarm appears to have been fitted upside down so that the chain is on the side that suits the Yamaha motor Edited April 22, 2016 by feetupfun
dan williams
Somebody's project bike. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/870186-my-air-cooled-monoshock-trials-bike-project-pic-heavy/#
papa al
Bingo. Swing arm ends were cut off, swapped, and rewelded to accommodate switch.
2stroke4stroke
Surely if you were going to the effort of doing all that you would do it such that the caliper would last more than five minutes in rocky going?
papa al
I would welcome advice on how to accomplish that. Surely that would be easy for you to figure out. Rear calliper surely has survived > 5 min @ rocky to date. [some people like to exaggerate and talk shie, no prob.]

Large Brembo calliper casting encloses the axel.
