fill05
Hi, I am looking at buying a beta evo 300 2013. I have been to look at the bike but it will not start. The owner says there is no spark at the plug. He says it maybe the stator. Any body know roughly how much I would be looking at to get it rewired? 2stroke4stroke
Assuming you are in the UK, or even if not, there are two Googleable places that do this - phone them and get a precise figure? If it's the source coils then I think that is about £90. One place is in the south west and the other sounds as if it should be in Yorkshire (I'm not sure of the rules on here for naming businesses). dadof2
It may be the stator, then again it may be something (more expensive) else. If I was selling a bike I would always get it running first unless I was offering it very cheap, just to get rid. goudrons
Before you start stripping parts off and getting them tested! Check the following. Evos can suffer from a wiring fault with the connector for the kill switch. Not the kill switch it's self or the switches wiring, but the connector block attached to the bikes loom. Unplugging the switch won't make a difference, the fault is the connector on the loom. It shorts out and kills the spark. Get a multimeter, set it to read resistence and unplug the kill switch (should be behind the headlight) Probe the connector (loom end, NOT switch end) and see if there is a short circuit. I've just had this with mine and there are a few others on here that have suffered too, I just sliced the connector out and soldered up the wires. Another common issue is the low tension wire to the coil. It's a push fit, spade connector fitted to the bottom of the coil. It can get quite crusty as it's in the firing line of water and dirt, it can also rattle loose, the connector it's self can open up a little and it slips off the prong on the coil. Clean the connector and prong up first, then a gentle squeeze with some pliers on the connector will tighten it back up.
