axulsuv
As I prepare to strip my 83 240 naked to powder coat the frame, I thought it would be a good time to weld on some new footpeg mounts... As my owners manual states "high-resistance,special steel" is there anything special I should know before I fire up my mig ? as in what type of steel??? And does anyone have a part# for the timkin steering head bearings ? Also for the swing arm bearings and seals ? And yes I will practice my welding on my spare frame that is cracked near the steering head on the brace between the backbone and downtubes, my good frame was already nicely repaired there before I bought her... The weak spot on the early fantics?... Thanks; Glenn
charliechitlins
Hard to imagine the steel is too "special". It would be a good precaution, though, to put down about 3/8" of bead, then stop and beat it with a hammer to relieve stress...the metal's...not your's. t-shock 250
Is it not Chro-moly? Certainly some other bikes of the same era were.
