benmaccaskill
I've recently bought a 2000 sherco 125 and was wondering if anyone knows what a good fuel to oil mix to run it with?
tony27
Between 70 & 80 to 1 with good synthetic oil is what most of us run, keeps the muffler from getting saturated with excess oil
benmaccaskill
okay thanks, I'll mix up 70 to 1 and run it for a while and see how it goes
benmaccaskill
Will that mix be okay if it's going to be ran at high rpms frequently?
heffergm
If you're motocrossing it, mix 50:1.
dadof2
Time after time this topic comes up, surely about time it had its own section. There is no universally right or wrong ratio, but a lot of untruths are posted. Yamaha got it about right when they developed a system that gave 100:1 at no load / idle RPM and 20:1 at high load / high revs. They went even better when they lubed the mains with one type of oil and the piston with another type. benmaccaskill
Yeh it's pretty much going to be doing motocrossing so I'll mix 50:1, thanks
dadof2
That's helpful ...... I hope it is more helpful than someone advising 80:1 without knowing they type of use the bike is put to and the state of the engine. The statements that rich oil ratios gum exhaust are the most misleading. Use a decent oil with the carburetor set correctly and it just does not happen, even at 20 or 25:
