Some airlines insist you carry it these days even for domestic flights. Technically You don't need it for EIRE either. They'll take a photographic driving licence. For flying you must have some form of photo ID see yaz all theer. and if flying Easyjet then they are rigid on their 40 minute check-in. The check-in gate closes 40 mins before and that's it.
