Need Some Identification Help

I am new to this site and to trials bikes. I just acquired a Fantic trials bike that sat outside (neglected) for almost 20 years. It actually had a bunch of bushes and a small tree that had grown up and around it. From my limited research I believe that I have an early 80's Fantic 240 professional. Can anyone help me confirm? I am also looking for a good website that has bike specification and maybe some parts so that I can rebuild it properly.

Model - FM450

Frame # - 0002264

Surprisingly, it shifts and has compression.

Thank you in advance.

Yep that's a 240 Fantic alright. Does it have FM450 and 212cc stamped on the upper right engine casing?

For parts try...

Bob Wright 01934 510333

Bill Pye 01642 722378

Richard Allen (used parts) 07917 406313

https://www.inmotiontrials.com/product-category/parts/twinshock/fantic/

http://www.bosisiomotori.it/home/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=204&Itemid=222These guys hold some useful parts but you will need to send payment via your bank. No big deal they're easy to deal with just an extra £10 for the transaction.

Ebay is always worth a search.

Good it has compression and selects gears. Try cleaning the carb, some 2 stroke mix fuel and a new plug. It'll probably run! Careful not to suck and dirt in until you find an air filter.

They are a competitive fun trials bike. I own one myself, hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Good luck!

Boy , with a color scheme like that , someones gotta know that Fantic! Have fun with it , Best twinshock trials bike ever ! (IMHO)...the engine # is on a machined pad on case below the carb .

Thank you all for the info! I agree that it is definitely a 240 pro. I have the carb soaking right now hoping to get it clean enough to try and start it up. Is there a still a group called the Southeastern Trials Riders Association? The bike has a sticker for them on the rear fender. It would be cool to possibly find the original owner.

Out of curiosity, how big of a sin would it be to continue with the non-traditional color scheme for this rebuild? I saw a restoration that did mostly white and I have say that it looked sharp. Thanks again.

It is a cardinal sin to paint a 240 frame any colour other than RED!  :hyper:  :hyper:  :hyper:  :hyper:

I am something of a traditionalist and like them as original looking as possible, joking aside no one will care what colour you paint it just as long as you like it.

Yes STRA is still quite alive and well , But www.twinshock.org  may be more to your liking ...Old school trials riders , riding old school bikes , having a grand old time ! :)

  • 8 years later...

I believe I now own this bike (located on the Alabama gulf coast).  Bought it, along with a spare NOS frame, and a spare motor.  My son is doing a full build on it.  Had a motor built in Germany, tubeless rear wheel and new front wheel built by Roy Thersby in the UK.  Carbon fiber tank, new triple clamps for modern bars, new Cerakoted aluminum swingarm, new suspension front and rear, frame is now powder coated black.  Should be purdy when he's done.  We trashed the original frame and swingarm as we beat them to pieces getting things apart as everything was pretty seized.  But I do think we'll have 2 leftover engines.  Will post some pics as he is now putting it all back together.
