feetupfun
for the adjustment problem: you didn't mention the ball between the pushrod and the mushroom rod. They can fall out unnoticed while you work on the clutch for the heavy action: inspect the camshaft for wear where the rod end rubs you might have been sold springs that fit, but are stiffer than TY175 springs. A lot of Yamaha models use similar but stiffer springs. Try the old springs lube the cable Because you have a combination of heavy action and lack of adjustment, it is also possible that you have too much plate stack height. Compare the thickness and quantity of the old plates with the new plates
contiki
i'm messing with the same issue. Today, I started wondering if the PO had lost that ball. My clutch arm rotates about 30 degrees w/o any noticable effect. I have everything adjusted to get the most out of the lever travel, and the clutch still drags. there's no freeplay left. i was able to buy a nos clutch arm/cam on ebay for $14 yesterday which i may throw in just to see what happens.i Have that same manual, and the adjustment instructions threw me at first. I had to look at a junk motor to figure out what hey were talking about. can anyone tell me if the long clutch rod can wear? Bent, i've seen, but I think they're hardened? I figured i would measure mine to be sure it was the correct length, but can't find a spec for it anywhere. if anyone knows what size that ball is, that might be good to know as well. sorry if i shanghaied the OP Edited September 30, 2016 by contiki

I replaced the pushrod in my 250 when I rebuilt it as there was some wear on the end & a new 1 was cheap. I can't tell you what else uses the same pushrod to give you an idea of cost as the part description comes up as the ball as well
retromlc
Ok I will check for the ball bearing ad I did the job with the bike laying on it'd side so maybe if it's not there I will get one . Unfortunately I don't have the parts I replaced they were in such bad condition and as I bought a complete clutch from a TY specialist and it was all yamaha wrapped I didn't consider it wouldn't be correct. I guess I could slack the springs off and see if it's them . without running the bike just to see if springs are too hard. I will check the adjuster for wear. Annoying as I'm selling it and just trying to get it as it should be

lineaway
The clutch arm can become corroded in the case. Remove, clean and grease.
