The headstem nut could have been stripped either before the breakage or during. Looks to me like the the forks just slid up when the nut let go and broke the bottom clamp because of the twist. Either way I think it comes down to something not being tight enough. We had four bikes coming off a 9ft drop off at the SuperTrial and they gave the suspension a workout but nothing broke! charliechitlins Posted November 22, 2005 Report Share Posted November 22, 2005 Ray Peters has a story about getting off line and having to ride a Scorpa off a 15 foot(!!) drop. I believe him about the height for several reasons...one of them being that he blew a fork seal right out of its seat! I'd say that any breakage of a major component on any of the modern bikes is due to either poor maintenance or a rare instance of a faulty part.
