tobster
Hi Is it possible to change the transmission side crankshaft oil seals on a 2002 rookie without splitting the crank cases?
tonyp884
I have never worked on a Rookie. BUT, I have owned 25 dirt bikes and I have never had to split the cases to replace wet side crank seal. In fact, I installed a new seal friday on my sons GG50 while I had the clutch pack out. Just need to lubricate the seal and make sure you press it in straight. Go slow, I used a deep well socket to press the seal in ion the GG50. tobster
hi Tony Thanks for the reassuring answer - hopefully someone who has actually worked on one of these bikes/engines will be able to confirm your answer...presumably you 'just' dig out the old with a screwdriver and then push a new one in. Is there anything to be gained by cooling the seal to help it slip in easier or does that trick only work with bearings?
charliechitlins
That trick only works for bearings. If you did anything to a seal temperature-wise, I'd be sure it's warm enough to be pliable.
gasgas
putting a seal in the freezer does help a little from own experience.
