ukmatador
1969 MK3 Matador. What are the correct tank badges for this model and year? I have seen thin transfer type and thick 'squashy' ones. John
matador107
Hello, the originals would have been a design of solid Perspex type of plastic, these days I would think the alternative would be the soft ones about 50 mm ?? In diameter.
feetupfun
The modern ones are much more crash resistant, but use a decent adhesive. Some modern ones come with a pressure-sensitive adhesive that does not work well when confronted with petrol, heat and vibration
twinnshock
I know nothing about Matador's so obviously well qualified to answer this question. Are we sure that a 1969 bike would have the plastic/perspex badges? My 1971 Sherpa has the sticker thin transfer type badges and I would have thought that an earlier production bike/model would use this type of badge. My model 10 (1965) has thin metal badges just to confuse the issue even further. Stuart
sherpa325
I am not a Matador expert either, but I am pretty sure the thicker poly type round tank stickers came out on around 1974 or thereabouts, prior to that all the Bulllys I remember seeing had the flat standard sticker type.
feetupfun
My memory is that the thin flat stickers were all you could buy at Frasers as replacements in the early and mid 1970s Edited August 9, 2017 by feetupfun fixing mistake
feetupfun
This shows the thin flat sticker I bought in 1975 when I repainted this M99 Alpina
ukmatador
Thanks for the response guys. I see Inmotion do the thin one so thats the way I will go. Just trying to tidy up a scruffy original bike so the question is slightly academic but thought might as well use the right ones if available. Next job is to sort the wiring out for the direct lighting. I see there is no side/parking light facility just dip and full beam. Will it pass a UK MOT like that?
