Varlo
I've just purchased electronic ignition from electrex world for my ty250! They say it needs setting up with strobe, what degree off tdc do I need for ty250? Never set timing before ?
tony27
I've got 1 of their ignitions in mine, pretty sure the instructions were to set it up mid slot to start with & fine tune to suit if needed Because you use the original flywheel the marks should line up at the standard firing point. I can look in about half an hour & let you know what the standard firing point is & check my instructions
tony27
This is what my instructions say, no need for a degree figure as marks should line up when it fires Standard timing is set 3.1mm +/- 0.15mm
Varlo
Thanks Tony27 ! I'm gonna try her out later, see how she goes ??
tony27
Can't find timing marks on my flywheel so I have to assume they were on the external band that was previously removed from it. Should be easy enough to add marks in the correct place if needed
Varlo
No timing marks on mine! I found tdc & marked it up best I could. I've had to retard it to get them to line up with strobe light. Still splutters on low revs !
scifi
I've timed several engines, including 4 cylinder cars, and found it best to set it up by adjusting for best tick-over and slow running. If you have clean running then who cares what the actual degrees are? Could solve your splutters...
