lacey9
Hi guys, will be picking up my first trials bike - an 09 290. It was owned by an elderly local who owned it from new and used it 4 times so its as good as the day it was bought. i just wanted to know what oils etc work best with the bike as my plan is to drain all the old fluids out of it and replace - gearbox and radiator fluid. Could someone recommend which gearbox oil and which coolant is best to use and also which 2 stroke oil. And also some advice on a good oil mix ratio and whether the sherco's run better on standard unleaded or super unleaded? and lastly, my plan is to tone down the power as much as i can so a slow action throttle is on order. Can anyone suggest a gearing improvement over standard to soften the power delivery a bit?
copemech
Many fluid types vary depending upon location and availability. I know what I use, yet that may not help you. If you do not have a Sherco dealer or trials specialist shop near you, then I would suggest you contact Splatshop.co.uk for more info and less opinion from others.
cleanorbust
If you google "Sherco set up" then select the Lewisportusa link you'll find all you need. I think you'd find a 9 tooth front sprocket useful in making the bike beginner-friendly, but by all means try it out as it is so you can appreciate the difference. Change one thing at a time. gasserguy
If your in Northants UK pop into John Lee's for a chat.... They will sort what you need. A flywheel weight, Low comp head and slow action throttle are all ways to calm it down. http://www.johnleemotorcycles.co.uk/ Edited October 28, 2017 by gasserguy
lacey9
Thanks guys, Will pop into John Lee's. Is the higher octane super unleaded the way to go for the Sherco? Always used it in my MX bikes so presume this is the way to go for Trials bikes too?
