hoodie2
Got a Bultaco Sherpa m80 project. The swinging arm has two badly rusted bolts welded on for shock mounting. Don't really want shock bushes running on a course thread. Does anyone know if you can buy weld on threaded bosses or get the right size threaded bar or will I have to get something made up? Cheers. fourex
I once modified the bottom shock mounts on my Fantic 300 swingarm by using "clevis pins" in the 12mm diameter that I required and simply cut them down to the length needed and drilled and tapped a 6mm thread down the centre for the shock retaining screw and then mig welded them in place. It worked a treat and I'm only an average welder and don't have a drill press either and I'm still riding the Fantic occasionally to this day. Hope this is helpful.
old trials fanatic
I always just turn some up out of "bright" steel bar and drill them M6. Got sick and tired of Ossa and Montesa with M7 screws that you could never get hold of. Easy to do.
section swept
Think you’ll find that the factory used the welded on bolt route as standard, except the bolts were shouldered type so the shock or more correctly the damper eye bush sat on the shoulder....smooth section. jon v8
As OTF says they are very easy to make on the lathe, only take a few mins to make so shouldn't be expensive. An m6 thread in the end makes life easy for fasteners too.
hoodie2
Thanks for all the advice. Looks like I've a few options. Will probably start trying to remember who I know with a lathe! Cheers.
