To reduce the noice, we found a very cheap, but also very effektiv solution. You take a (in Germany we say) "tea-egg", drill out the holes a little bit, put it on the muffler with silicone. Exhaust and silencer design, technology and development has always been Honda's weakpoint...bet they never even considered it when tweaking the required engine characteristics... Honda just never seem to consider these things when building new motors these days - what with all the emissions and noise restrictions imposed on them. Don't know how they get away with it?
