unclebuck Posted December 31, 2005 Report Share Posted December 31, 2005 Just got my grubby mitts on two issues of the 'Offroad Review'(Nos 70 and 71 to be precise) published 1999 by Ariel Publishing. These are excellent, offering a wealth of interesting articles and superb quality photographs of classic off road action from ancient to more modern times. I've never come across these before and I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me if they are still published. I can't find any reference to them on Google so I suspect they may not be but does anyone know for sure? TIA for any info, and happy new year to all... What a shame it's no longer produced though as you say it looks as though the Magazine Man has a fairly comprehensive stock of back issues. But with a response by you lot, may mean that Deryk will again publish Off Road Review in an E format probably on Kindle. So if you are interested give the guy a show of hands. They will be a reference to any bike you may want to buy, rebuild etc, or just want to know a little bit about the make of British bike you own and the sporting history of the machine. He will only go ahead with the idea I am sure, only if he thinks it is worth while with the interest shown. You decide!!! laird387 Posted January 18, 2014 Report Share Posted January 18, 2014 Hi, The answer to will I ever publish Offroad Review again in e-format is a categoric NO - not because I'm not pleased with the way the magazine was, and always is, received - but it was published over twenty years ago and times have changed - the sport has moved on. I would want to thoroughly revise and update so very much of it. Secondly I was persuaded, at the time to include a fair amount of road racing detail and information, mainly because the general feeling at the time was that there was not a lot of integrity in the way that element of our sport was reported - particularly insofaras the background real stories were concerned. But I'm afraid my own knowledge of road racing is miniscule so we never covered it in the detail I was able to demand of the other aspects. So this is what I intend to do - with the aid of TC. I am going to continue to post items from my archives in the various areas of the forums, responding as often as possible that queries raised from members about particular models or past events is concerned. I am going to include similar postings for the classic scrambling nostalgia buffs - mainly because it was common practice 'in the day' to ride our bikes in trials through the winter months but try our hand in scrambles in the summer. The real enthusiasts with actual money bought actual scrambles machinery - then borrowed trials bikes to keep fit during the winter. Most of the works riders were heavily involved in both scrambles and trials. I was in my youth and then when I became involved in creating the pre-65 trials scene I was soon coerced into doing the very same thing for classic scrambles. I am also going to include separate detail of the classic ISDT scene, at home and abroad, how many people realise, for example, that Royal Enfield works rider Johnny Brittain was far more successful in ISDT events than normal trials, being entered in thirteen events and winning thirteen gold medals - mainly on the Enfield Meteor 500 twin. Hopefully that will go some way to satisfying the calls for nostalgia tweaks, particularly if it persuades more of the older riders to join in the activity and enjoy a membership.
