Sure it would be a few pounds of weight, but can you imagine getting 'limited slip' type of front assist on that rock ledge? The nice part is the "gearing" is set such, that w/o wheel spin the rear wheel provides all thrust as usual, only when a certain amount of slip occurs, the front starts pulling. jtt Posted January 26, 2004 Report Share Posted January 26, 2004 Yamaha did indeed run a 2 wheel drive bike in this years Dakar. In fact it did very well in the tighter/nastier stages. Won a few of the early ones, but the little 450cc motor couldn't run with the big bikes in the open desert. Very cool concept! neonsurge Posted January 28, 2004 Report Share Posted January 28, 2004 I saw the Yam WR450F 2-Track (to give it its full name) at last year's Stoneleigh show - at first I thought that it was just a standard WR with Ohlins sussies but then you notice what looks like a front drum brake (it's not, it's actually the front wheel drive gears) and all the hydraulic gubbins. For some reason Yamaha let Paul Blezard ride it during one of the African rallies and his report has appeared in TBM and TMX.
