trialsmm
Do engine parts,(piston, rod, crank, clutch, etc) brakes, cables, etc. from the DT models swap out with TY parts? So if I found a Yamaha DT model I might could use the engine parts in my TY? Thanks, Mick USA
mattylad
I think the basic answer is NO. The ignitions are generally much lighter, the gearbox have different ratios. Not sure about cylinders though you could offer up a TY base and head gasket to confirm.
spinner
You need to be more specific, what year DT175. The piston should work,Half of the crank is the same on some DT's. The clutch assembly can be used but you have to change the whole assembly including the crank gear because the drive ratio is different. A lot of other parts on the engine will work but you have to get on the parts fiche and look. Don't pay a lot for the DT not that much will work perfectly! trialsmm
Thanks for info. I'm sure stuff like some side case covers, brake hubs etc. Yes if I find some DTs, they will have to be cheap!
kevin j
wheels and brake hubs are different. cylniders are different. Pistons are the same, at least Wiseco doesn't list a TY anymore but they supply a DT piston. carb body fro a DT100 will fit, needs different jetting. BEst going new Mikuni there though. Ebay US has a guy selling Yamaha part number interchange CD for about $25USD. covers from the 60's to 80's I think. Might help. I was thinking of buying it but haven't done so. k
austini
I have canibalised some parts from various DT's 100/125/175's over the years to keep my two 175's running. Side case covers are a no no though, definatly stick out a lot more than a TY's. Always check with your local Yam dealer first theres still a lot of parts, I recently bourght a new TY175 kickstart from a yam dealer for half the bike wreckers price!!! trialsmm
Any one put an electronic ignition from a DT175 on a TY175? What's involved?
grouchof
Hi, Since there is a big difference between the two left part of the crankshaft, I think it will be difficult. But you can buy electronic ignition especially made for the TY (but very hight priced). Regards
kevin j
I had inquired about the electronic ignition swap on another board. TY magneto is strong, just wanted to get away from points. General consensus was that the older 80's ignitions were not all that reliable, so I dropped the idea. B&J has one that was developed with help of a good vintage rider in US. Great unit, but over $US400, so not feasaible for my needs. kcj
