swiftnick
Has anyone got any experience of converting an existing petrol bike to electric? Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated
section swept
A lot will depend upon what bike you intend to try to convert. Locating the motor should not cause many headaches as it is not going to be that big, unless you are using a milk float motor ( I jest). Battery location again should not be a real issue as you will have to use a similar power supply to those already fitted to an electric machine. Your big challenge would possibly be the cost unless you have access to lots of useful spare parts. I doubt there are many TC site members that have attempted to undertake what you propose. In the long run buying an electric bike might be the less costly option, not to dampen your enthusiasm but if you research a bit deeper you are going to frighten yourself with development of the drive train and power modulation etc etc. ? mcman56
The guy narrating this converted the Montesa and has been riding it in local trials since. He has a channel on youtube but I don't know if there is a way to contact him through that.
fantic240motor
http://www.motomerlin.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Gas-Gas-Electric-Trials-Bike-TXT-Ea.pdf Looks like Motomerlin are now advertising the ETA Motors kits to convert 2010 and up Gas Gas TXT Pro bikes. ETA are a German company who have been making these kits for a few years now. https://www.eta-motors.com/englisch/ They look good. I fancied creating an electric trials bike using their kit. After buying a Gas Gas and the price of the kit it was pretty much the same cost as a used Electric Motion bike. It's the cost of the donor bike that is the deal maker or breaker and as I did't own a suitable Gasser I'd have to buy one first. Creating my own E bike over buying one appeals to me, I'm sure it would be fun and rewarding.
