KnocksM8
My old man has had his 1999 TXT 321 since it was new, about 12-13 years ago it stopped working and he never had time to fix it. I recently brought a 2005 TXT 300 pro and i want to get his bike working again so we can ride together. the problem with the bike is it will cold start and run for a few minutes before it dies and wont start again, we have no idea what is wrong with it, i have been unable to find any info online and was hoping making a post will get me some info on what the cause might be. 2smoke
Hi, Have you checked the basics? Is the carb clean and free of crud, when it stops running have you taken the plug out & checked for a spark?
KnocksM8
hey smoke so i checked the carby and it is immaculate, surprising because it hasn't been ridden in so long it would normally run for like 1-3 mins so i disconnected the kill switch and light cluster, it ran for 30 mins but was running rough and it stopped running again, checked and no spark. KnocksM8
Ok update, i was testing the spark with the old and while trying to pull the spark plug lead back past the radiator i pulled the lead out of the plug, and my dad said we should check the spark from the lead, low and behold super strong spark so we test the plug with a multi-meter no current getting through, so the conclusion is its just the spark plug cap. i will buy a new one tomorrow and fingers crossed it will fix it, kinda funny to think that for 11 years its been sitting in our shed not working and this is all it might be.
tshock250
Could also be a stator problem, ok when cold but fails when warming up. Had this happen to mine.
KnocksM8
Ok so it was the spark plug cap that was broken, replaced it and now the bike runs really well, surprisingly well considering it has been sitting for 10+ years. The funny thing is my dad took the bike to a "gasgas specialist" who also said that it was the stator, luckily he never went out and bought a new 1k stator when it only cost me $10 to fix.
